The Role of Passion in Making Money Online
How important is passion for making money online?
Whether you're just starting out or already running an online business, this post is for you.
Over the years, my focus has been on teaching productivity apps. This started as me making YouTube videos about the apps that I became obsessive about. This approach has allowed me to make a full-time living online.
Interestingly, this post is a reflection of my passion for entrepreneurship and the lessons I've learned along the way. So, spoiler alert: I believe passion matters, but let's break down why…
The Intersection of 3 key elements
To understand the role of passion in online money-making, let's consider a Venn diagram with three overlapping circles representing skills, market, and passion.
- Skills:
- What are you good at?
- What problems can you solve for others?
- Market:
- This is the market's demand, how many people want what you offer.
- Are they willing to pay you to solve their problems?
- Passion:
- Do you love what you do?
- Does it obsess you?
The question then becomes, should we aim to position ourselves at the intersection of these three elements? Is passion a nice bonus, or is it essential for success?
The Role of Passion
Here's my take: If your skills align with market demand, you'll make money. However, without passion, this success may be short-lived.
A business model that relies solely on skills and market demand is a short-term strategy.
For long-term success and wealth generation, passion plays a crucial role.
Being obsessed turns your leisure into your advantage, what you enjoy effortlessly is a challenge for others. This positions you well ahead of your competition.
Consider a bodybuilder whose life revolves around the gym versus someone who has to force themselves to go to the gym. Discipline can only take you so far, but obsession can take you places others can't reach.
Successful People Are Obsessive
If you look at the wealthiest people, you'll likely find that they're all obsessed with what they do.
Some successful people are more difficult to decode. For instance, think of a billionaire who owns a cement company. He may not be passionate about cement, but he might be obsessed about business growth or leading people.
If you're passionate or obsessed with the topic you cover, the niche you've chosen, or the product or service you provide, that's a huge bonus. But you could also find this level of passion or obsession in the daily activities of your business.
Finding Your Sweet Spot
Passion plays a significant role in the sustainability of your business. By finding the intersection of your skills, the market, and your passion, you're setting yourself up for success.
